Department of Psychology

The Department of Psychology is composed of 12 full-time faculty members and seven adjunct faculty members.  The facility comprises a total of 4,681 square feet of operational space.  There are two classrooms, a main departmental office consisting of two adjoining offices, six faculty offices, a small library-reading room/study area, a multi-purpose activity room, and a min-computer laboratory.

The Department of Psychology housed on the third floor of the Gore Educational Center Complex had its inception in 1953-54 under the administrative auspices of the College of Education.  In the early 1960s the Department joined the College of Arts and Sciences.  The Department of Psychology is composed of an undergraduate program and two graduate programs.  A graduate program in Community Psychology offers a Masters of Science to students who complete the program.  Currently, there is a thesis requirement for all Community Psychology students.  The School Psychology Program has recently as of Spring 2006 been authorized to grant the Educational Specialist degree and to date has graduated five students with an Ed.S.  The undergraduate program has maintained an average enrollment of 400 students over the past four years and an additional 50-61 students are enrolled in the graduate programs.  In 2012 the Department of Psychology became a part of the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.
