Systems Support

Mission Statement
We intend to use technology as a vehicle to offer more efficient and effective delivery of current services and to add new services to carry out the mission of the library.

Goals
The Systems Office is responsible for developing, acquiring and maintaining automated resources. The purpose of this office is: (1) to provide technology and informational needs; (2) to train library staff and faculty in using the automated resources of the library; (3) to coordinate, plan, fully implement and maintain library systems; and (4) to keep abreast of new technology that can be used to improve services offered by the Library.
 

 

Computers within Coleman  

Special Collections (4th Floor) - (14) computers:  12 Dell Optiplex 755 and 2 Dell Optiplex GX280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint, Pulisher, InfoPath and Groove), open source software and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive.

Periodicals Department (3rd Floor) - (6) Dell Optiplex 755 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint, Pulisher, InfoPath and Groove), open source software, Census Tract  and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive.

Scholars1 (2nd Floor) - (34) Dell Optiplex 745 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint, Pulisher, InfoPath and Groove), Course Compass, Write-N-Cite, open source software and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive. Computers are designed  for research.

Scholars2 (2nd Floor) - (33) Dell Optiplex 745 computers with 2007 Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint, Publisher, InfoPath and Groove); Write-N-Cite, open source software and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D: drive; (1) one computer is designed as a scanning station and is equipped with a Canon DR1210C flatbed scanner that support multiple scanning formats. Scans may be saved to a flash drive or sent directly to the Ricoh Aficio MP 5000 multifunction printer/copier station(s). Computers are designed for research.

Reference (2nd Floor, located in the Reference Dept.) - (24) Dell Optiplex 755 computers with 2007 Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint, Publisher, InfoPath and Groove); Write-N-Cite, open source software and Internet access. Two (2) computers are designed for email purpose.

Group Study Rooms (Located in Coleman Annex, 2nd Floor) – (8) Dell Optiplex GX 280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint).

Group Study Rooms (Located in Coleman Annex, 3rd Floor - A317 & A319) - (1) Dell Optiplex GX 280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), open source software and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive.

Jazzman's Café (2nd Floor) - (1) Dell Optiplex GX 280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), Census Tract and Internet access. A Brother Typewriter is available for use on a first-come-first-serve basis.

ADA Access Station - (2nd Floor, Room 207) - (1) Dell Optiplex 755 with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite. Software includes: JAWS (a screen reader), Magic (a screen magnification program), OpenBook (a scanning and reading program), Microtek large format scanner, Juliet Brailler (Printer) and a CCTV (closed circuit TV) for the visually impaired.

Microfilm Scanners (2nd Floor, Room 207) - (2) Conon Microfilm Scanner 300II are available for reading and printing of microfilm and microfiche materials. Two (2) Dell GX280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and Internet access accompany the setup Documents may be saved to a USB flash drive or printed at any library print station.

Cataloging Stations located on each floor of the Coleman Library Annex (4th Floor- 1st Floor) - (10) Dell Optiplex GX620 computers - These workstations provide access to the Library online catalog and WorldPad. These computers do not print.

Information Literacy Room – (Coleman Annex 410A & 410B) –51 Dell GX270  computers.  A multipurpose classroom for library instruction and other purposes.  Each room is equipped with a Sharp-Notevision projector, Sony DVD combo player, document camera, sound, teleconferencing phone, and electronic display screen. Internet access, SchoolVue, Write-N-Cite and Microsoft Office 2007 Suite are supported.

Teleconferencing Room – (Coleman Annex 415) – 1 Dell small form factor computer, Polycom, Pioneer Plasma display, Sony DVD combo player, document camera, sound, teleconferencing phone and white board. 

Print Stations - (4) Ricoh Aficio Multifunction printers/copiers (MFP) are installed in the Coleman Library (all on the second floor). The computers in the Scholars 1, Scholars 2, and Reference workgroups are connected to a distributed print server which disseminates print jobs to all Coleman Library print station.
 

Other Support
The Systems Support Department provides services to all Branch Libraries including copy/print services.

Science Research Center Library (Located on the 4th & 5th Floors of the Frederick S. Humphries Building) - (14) Dell Optiplex 960 and (15) Dell Optiplex GX 280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, OneNote, PowerPoint, Pulisher, InfoPath and Groove), open source software, Write-N-Cite and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive.

Architecture Library – (Located on the 1st Floor of the Walter Smith Building) - (12) Dell Optiplex GX 280 computers with 2007 Microsoft Office Suite, open source software, Write-N-Cite and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive.

Journalism Resources Center (Located in the School of Journalism and Graphic  Communication) - (10)   Dell Optiplex 280 computers with 007 Microsoft Office Suite, open source software, Write-N-Cite and Internet access. Documents may be saved temporarily to the D drive.

FAMU Developmental Research Center (Located in the Lucy Moten Building) - Circulation use only. Copy /print services not supported.

FAMU-FSU College of Engineering Reading Room (Located at 2525 Pottsdamer Street, Tallahassee, FL). Copy/print services not supported.


Circulating Equipment

  • Laptops - 9 Dell Latitude E5500 laptops circulate from the Information Commons Desk (2nd Floor, Coleman Library Main). Refer to "Related links" for laptop Guidelines, agreement and registration form.
  • USB Flash Drives - Circulate from the Information Commons Desk. Six (6) hourss loans are available.
  • Headphones - Circulated from the Information Commons Desk. Six (6) hourss loans are available.
