The Serials Unit acquires, organizes, preserves, and provides access to serials in all formats to endorse and support Florida A&M University and the University Libraries in fulfilling the mission of teaching, research and service.
Periodicals are located on the 3rd floor, Room 303 and 313 of the Samuel H. Coleman Library. The collection is comprised of approximately 98,538 bound volumes arranged alphabetically by title on open shelves. Current issues of "frequently used periodicals" are kept on reserve behind the Periodicals / Newspapers Service Desk. FAMU ID is required for borrowing.
The newspaper collection consists of local newspapers and newspapers from major cities around the country. Current editions of the Tallahassee Democrat, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal are kept behind the Periodicals Service Desk. Newspapers for the current month are arranged in alphabetical order in display cases around the third floor lobby. Two months of archival editions are shelved on the upper level of room 313. Some titles are retained until the microfilm copy is received.
A variety of electronic databases, journals, and newspapers may be accessed through the Libraries' online catalog on computers throughout the library. Off campus access is also available to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff with an activated FAMU Library Rattler card.
