Special Induction Initiatives TEACHING CLINICS The Center for Teacher Induction & Research provides ongoing new teacher induction and professional development activities. Beginning in the summer of 2012, professional development sessions led by both university faculty and public school master educators will be presented through the FAMU Division of Continuing Education with the goal of blending educational theory with teacher practice. MODEL ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY CLASSROOMS As a primary vehicle for collaboration, peer observation, and modeling of best practices, the College of Education houses a model elementary and a model secondary classroom. These classrooms, located at the Florida A&M University Developmental Research School, effectively link theory to practice by allowing teachers to observe their peers and master educators as they model the most current best practices in classroom instruction that impact student achievement. SUMMER TEACHER INDUCTION INSTITUTE The summer institute is designed to provide both grade level and content specific professional development to first, second, and third year teachers. Utilizing the model elementary and secondary classrooms, school partners and university faculty will engage in learning centered on student analysis, curriculum study, assessment, and lesson planning.
MASTERY TEACHING WORKSHOPS These workshops will be held on selected Saturdays each semester. These workshops (clinics) are designed to extend and deepen participant learning and enhance professional collaboration during the academic year. Led by university faculty & school partners, participants share classroom successes and concerns and receive peer feedback, coaching, and customized support.
