The Energy Water Food Nexus (EWFN) is a biennial International Summit hosted by Florida A&M University. The 2017 EWF-N will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, September 20 and 21, 2017 in Orlando, FL. This new science enterprise was launched in 2015 at Florida A&M University through a global public-private partnership that seeks to provide sustainable and innovative solutions for energy, water and food security. The nexus approach is based on the premise that an action in one sector impacts the other. Therefore, the search for solutions must simultaneously investigate all three elements in a new science enterprise.

The upcoming 2017 International Summit will continue to connect participants, growing the global network of public and private sector industry stakeholders working in the energy, water and food sectors. The focus of this summit will be Global Access to Safe Water.

Access to safe drinking water remains one of the biggest challenges facing the global community. The United Nations’ sustainable development efforts estimate that more than 1.5 billion people lack safe drinking water and over 2.5 billion lack access to adequate sanitation. This problem is not restricted to developing countries of the world; it is also a rural America problem as in Flint, Michigan, and as in many other rural communities in America that still depend on unregulated private wells and contaminated surface water for their water needs.

Student Admission passes include access to all daytime events and activities occurring over the two summit days. Student Admissions do not include access to the Alumni & Industry Gala. Tickets to the Gala may be purchased for an additional $50. Students are required to provide proof of a valid Student I.D. prior to, or on the day of the event. 

Students can attach an image of their Student I.D. as proof and email to nexus@famu.edu. Those who purchased Student Admissions in advance and do not provide valid I.D. prior to, or on the day of the event, are responsible for paying the difference between the Student Admission and a General Admission Pass.


The Alumni & Industry Gala will be held on the evening of the first summit day, September 21, 2017. Featured activities include the 2017 Keynote Speaker, the Alumni & Industry Awards Ceremony, dinner, and entertainment.

Please note that all General Admission passes include a ticket to the Alumni & Industry Gala, however Student Admission passes do not. Student and additional tickets to the Gala may be purchased for an additional $50.00.

To register more than one person for the summit, please complete the entire registration process for the first person, then prior to proceeding to checking out, add another person and continue this process until all of the attendees’ information has been input.
