Leading with Excellence
The Center for Disability Access and Resources has emerged as the leading disability services center at a Historically Black College and University. We have accomplished this by providing the most comprehensive collegiate disability services in comparison to other HBCU’s in the nation. Our services are also comparable to those of larger, majority institutions. The CEDAR serves approximately 500 students and growing with documented physical, cognitive, and psychiatric disabilities. By providing support services at no cost to students with disabilities, the CEDAR offers an opportunity for students to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Striving Not to Equal…But to EXCEL!
Our goal is to continue expanding the scope of services offered and remain as leaders in the field. Maintaining our current high standards of service, while striving to expand, can be challenging with the constant threat of decreases in budgets and economic recessions. FAMU currently invests all funds available to satisfactorily serve its students with disabilities. However, the CEDAR relies on private support, to progress toward the next level of service. We want to excel beyond being the leader among HBCU’s to being number one overall in the nation.
Your Gift Can Make the Difference
By giving to the CEDAR Support Fund, you will give students with disabilities the opportunities and support which might not be otherwise available. Funds from your gift will provide the following:
·Sponsorship of the College Study Skills Institute (CSSI), an orientation program designed to acclimate incoming students with disabilities to the University environment. It addresses student life issues, such as study skills, use of adaptive technology, career planning, and motivation and leadership development.
·Support for Disability Education and Awareness, vital to the smooth integration of students with disabilities into University programs and campus life. The fund supports a variety of programs, events and educational materials designed to promote University and community awareness of disability related issues.
·Support for Supplementary Student Services, which can sometimes make the difference in a student's life between having access and obtaining the full benefit of all that the University has to offer. These services include peer groups, personal care attendant referrals, upper division tutorial assistance, and emergency assistance.
·Purchase equipment, allowing our students to take advantage of the recent revolution in adaptive technology and equipment. The multitude of products currently on the market reflects the growing awareness that accessibility and capability are sometimes only a new design away.
·Sponsorship of CEDAR Honors, an annual awards program recognizing the accomplishments of program participants, as well as, the outstanding support and advocacy provided by University and community partners.
We appreciate your interest in supporting our students. Your contribution, regardless of the size, will make a positive difference in their lives by helping them obtain the full benefit of their FAMU education.
