MAJ JOSEPH D. KELLY

MAJ Joe Kelly was born in Washington, D.C., and traveled to numerous locations as a military dependent including Germany, Korea, and eventually settling down in Manassas, Virginia. He received his Bachelors of Science in Transportation at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. He was commissioned through the Reserved Officers Training Corps (ROTC) as a Distinguished Military Graduate (DMG) at North Carolina A&T State University in May 1997.
Following commissioning, he completed Transportation Officer Basic Course at Fort Eustis, Virginia. His first assignment was to Mannheim, Germany as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the 68th and 70thTransportation Companies within the 28thTransportation Battalion. He was then selected to become the 260thTrailer Transfer Detachment Commander. During this tour he deployed to Taszar, Hungary on two occasions, hauling ammunition and general cargo throughout the Bosnia-Herzegovina region.
Upon completion of his initial assignments he attended the Combined Logistics Officer Advance Course at Fort Lee, Virginia. Upon completion he commanded the 89thTransportation Company, 6thTransportation Battalion at Fort Eustis, Virginia. After command, he was tasked to be the 7thProvisional Battalion S3, comprised of over 2,000 Soldiers. Following this assignment, he was selected to be the Aide-de-camp to the Chief of Army Transportation and the Commandant of the US Army Transportation School and Center.
After completing his tour at Fort Eustis, he was assigned to the 101stSustainment Brigade at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There he deployed to Q-West, Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. After deployment he was assigned to the Division Staff as the Division Transportation Officer. He was then selected to become the Executive Officer and Support Operations Officer of the 563D Aviation Support Battalion, 159thCombat Aviation Brigade. There he deployed to Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. Upon return from deployment, he was assigned to Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
MAJ Kelly is married to the former Kenya Boswell of Austin, Texas. They have three children, Ke’era(17), Joseph Jr. (8), and Kason(6). He received his Masters Degree in Logistics Management from Florida Institute of Technology. MAJ Kelly’s personal awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Air Assault and Airborne badges.
