|Study Rooms are available on the second and third floors of Coleman Library. Group study rooms are limited to a minimum of three persons for each room. Individual study carrels and other reading and study areas are located throughout the library. Vending machines are available in the Student Study Lounge. Please restrict all eating and drinking to this area. |
|Computers are located on each floor of the library. All computers contain the Microsoft 2007 Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, One Note, PowerPoint, Publisher, Infopath, Groove, Office Tools) and Internet Access. Open source software such as GIMP, MagiX is available for use in manipulating photos and scanned images. All computers are capable of printing from any Ricoh Aficio multifunction (MFP) printer located in Coleman and /or a branch library. To access the electronic databases from outside of the library click the Off-Campus Access link on the libraries' home page. Scanning is available at the scanning work station located in the Scholars2 Area. The station is equipped with a Canon DR1210C flatbed scanner. Scans may be saved to a flash drive or sent directly to the Ricoh multifunction printer (MFP). |

Materials that are in compliance with Copyright Policy may be placed on reserve. Compliance may include securing permission from the copyright owner and paying copyright fees as necessary. Assistance for copyright clearance is available from the University Bookstore. These materials must be accompanied by a completed and signed Copyright Compliance Statement.

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service provides access to library materials not owned by Florida A&M University (FAMU) Libraries. ILL services are provided to FAMU's faculty, staff, and students who are currently enrolled and engaged in academic research. Service is also provided to State university students who are enrolled in distance learning/off-campus courses. ILL requests may be submitted electronically or at the Coleman Library Reference desk.
Laptops are available for currently enrolled students and faculty who have registered for the laptop lending service. A laptop may be borrowed for up to six hours per day. Click here for more information.
Instruction is offered in the use of library resources, the online catalog, and electronic databases. The majority of classes are held in the Information Literacy room on the 4th floor of Coleman Library. Faculty may arrange for librarians to come teach in their different classrooms on campus. They may also arrange instruction for their classes during their regular class hours. Instruction will be tailored to fit the needs of the class. Regularly scheduled information literacy sessions on topics such as, searching the Web, writing papers, electronic access, etc. may be requested throughout the semester. Borrowers may view and renew items that are currently checked out. Go to the online catalog, click on "renewals/your Account" to view your account options within the Library Catalog.
(If you have not already signed-in, you will be prompted to do so.) Then click on the "Loans" link to see a list of all the items you currently have checked out along with their due dates. Click here to do so.
All libraries and the Instructional Technology Dept. located in Room 104, are equipped with networked copying and printing services. The Rattler card can be used to create an account or you may make up an account number. Instructions are posted at each kiosk station in order to assist in creating your print/copy account. There are 2 typewriters available for patron use. Typewriters are available on a first come, first served basis, in the following locations: Jazzman Cafe and Special Collections, Room 403.
USB flash drives are available for checkout at the following service desks in the following libraries: Coleman, Architecture, Science Research Center and the Journalism Resources Center. Click here for more information.
Users with Disabilities
Samuel H. Coleman Memorial Library is designed for easy access. Ramps are located at the west and north entrances to the building. Patrons with visual impairments or mobility problems may request assistance from the service desks to retrieve materials from the shelves and in using the workstation. An Aleph workstation for use by the visually and physically disabled is available in room 207.
