FAMU Hosts National Council on Disability Forum on Medicaid Managed Care, Community-Based Care

WHAT: The NCD will collaborate with federal and state agency representatives, as well as disability leadership stakeholders, to obtain input on both the planning and implementation of Medicaid managed care, enhancing community-based care and promoting services in the least restrictive environment.

WHO: Federal and state agency representatives and disability leadership stakeholders. Presenters and guests include: Danette Saylor, Ph.D., director of the FAMU Center for Disability Access and Resources; Tom Ranken, deputy director of operations for the Agency for Persons with Disabilities; Jesse Fry, chair of the Florida HIV/AIDS Advocacy Network; Charles T. Corley, Secretary of the Department of Elder Affairs;Stephanie McCladdie, regional administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration; Justin Senior representing the Agency for Healthcare Administration and Melanie Brown-Woofter representing the Agency for Healthcare Administration.

WHEN: Friday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.             

WHERE: FAMU Teleconference Center, located at 2010 Pinder Dr. in Tallahassee.

OVERVIEW:  The event’s facilitators will utilize input from participants to develop recommendations for uniform best practices in Medicaid managed care that will be proposed as policy directives to state governments from the federal government.  Participants will also provide input on building community support systems for disabled individuals and families. Members of the media are encouraged to attend.  

The National Council on Disability is an independent federal agency established to make recommendations to the President and Congress to enhance the quality of life for all Americans with disabilities and their families.
