Attorney Daryl Parks becomes the newest university trustee
TALLAHASSEE – Florida Gov. Charlie Crist Tuesday appointed Daryl D. Parks, a principal attorney with the Tallahassee law firm of Parks & Crump, L.L.C., to the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees.
“Daryl is an energetic and hardworking person who cares a great deal about the future of Florida A&M University,” said Gov. Crist. “He approaches life with a great attitude and will carry his enthusiasm into this position.”
Parks, 38, is a 1992 honors graduate of FAMU, with degrees in political science and economics. In 1995, he earned the Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law.
“I appreciate Governor Crist allowing me the opportunity to serve the university in this capacity,” said Parks. “I will work with the other members of the board of trustees to ensure that Florida A&M remains one of the premier universities in our state.”
As a student, Parks was an activist student leader who served two consecutive terms as president of the Student Government Association. He has served as the youngest member of the Board of Directors for the Florida A&M University Foundation, which he chaired, and the Florida A&M University Boosters. He officially resigned as chair and member of the Foundation Board on Tuesday after his appointment was announced.
Parks – who, along with his partner, has represented clients in some of the nation’s high-visibility personal-injury cases -- will succeed FAMU Trustee Jesse Tyson Exxon Mobil Corporation; Park’s appointed term, upon confirmation by the Florida Senate, will end Jan. 6, 2011.
“First, I want to thank Trustee Tyson for his service to FAMU,” said Challis Lowe, board chair. “Although he was with us for only a short time, he was very engaged in finding ways to serve the university.
“Daryl Parks is a young leader who has already distinguished himself in his field and at his alma mater. Having served as chair of the FAMU Foundation, we look forward to a change in his focus from the Foundation to the Board of Trustees, and to the contributions that he will make to this board.”
