 Assessment Training and Research Institute May 17-19, 2010 in Tallahassee, Florida We would like to thank everyone for their special presence at the second annual Assessment Training and Research Institute. Your efforts made all the difference in the success of the event. Thank you for your active participation! We hope that the time you spent with us during the ATARI was extremely valuable. It is through the support of individuals that we are able to continue to strengthen our programs, and to develop new and innovative ideas related to the assessment process. Please know that the time spent with us during the ATARI was extremely valuable for the participants who shared in the experiences and opinions about our assessment process. EVENT OVERVIEW The second annual Assessment Training and Research Institute was held to May 17-19, 2010 at Aloft Tallahassee Downtown Hotel. The event was a great success. The 2nd Annual ATaRI theme was “The Closed Loop: Where is the Evidence?” Consistent with this theme, proposals were accepted to be presented that highlight research related to assessment efforts, particularly research on how assessment activities have enhanced student performance, student services, as well as developed institutional effectiveness. The keynote speaker was Dr. Trudy W. Banta. She is the Senior Advisor to the Chancellor for Academic Planning and Evaluation at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis. Dr. Banta has received numerous national awards for her work and has consulted with faculty and administrators worldwide on the topic of outcomes assessment. Also, she has written/edited some 16 published volumes on assessment, contributed 27 chapters to other published works, and written more than 200 articles and reports. The latest publication being “Designing Effective Assessment: Principles and Profiles of Good Practice”, which includes a chapter on FAMU’s General Education Assessment Model. OVERALL EVENT EVALUATION FORM ANAYLSIS Overall, the event was a success. Based on evaluation forms collected, 63.16% of participants strongly agreed that they were satisfied with ATaRI. 31.58% agreed and 5.26% were neutral. A majority of participants, 63.16%, strongly agreed that the knowledge and skills they learned will be useful. 57.89% strongly agreed that their expectations were met. And finally, 94.74% of participants agreed and strongly agreed that they would attend future assessment trainings/forums organized by the Office of University Assessment @ Florida A&M University. A breakdown of other responses is given in the table below. They appreciated information given about understanding the need to complete the assessment process and being provided a standard framework for assessment. When asked what information would they have liked to receive, participants stated that they would have liked to see more presentations from other universities and more presentations regarding service areas. They also stated that they would have liked more case studies to work on in the coaching sessions.
