Police CommunicationsThe Communications Center operates year-round, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Center, staffed by communication operators, receives all telephone calls for service or emergency assistance. Police Communications Operators (PCOs) are state certified by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Criminal Justice Information Services after completing the required training course. PCOs are authorized and trained to dispatch police, fire or emergency medical services immediately upon receiving a call for help. They handle all walk-in customers seeking police services or information. Additionally, they are responsible for monitoring fire and intrusion alarm systems, answering 911 emergency calls and coordinating the response of police officers throughout the campus. The Police Communications Operator position involves dispatching, taking complaints, and serving as the departmental receptionist.
