THE SPORT MANAGEMENT GRADUATE PROGRAM Master of Science Program Overview The Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation offers the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Sport Management. The FAMU Sport Management faculty is committed to offering students the skills and knowledge necessary to understand management in a sport-related setting. At the completion of the program, students will have the necessary skill set to be practitioners in the sport industry.
The Sport Management program offers interactive, educational training that is necessary for individuals seeking careers in the sport industry – an industry that has evolved into an integral part of today’s culture. The operation of sport programs have become more sophisticated and complex, and must be managed by equally savvy professionals well versed in the intricacies of sport activities. Thus, the program emphasizes a variety of managerial, administrative, socio-cultural, and communication skills necessary for success in a multifaceted sport industry.
Students are admitted to the program during the summer and fall semesters only. Graduate students in the Sport Management program must maintain a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) during matriculation and graduation from the program. Students are strongly encouraged to be involved in professional development through participation in amateur, professional and academic opportunities at the local, state, regional, national, and/or international level in order to network and gain experience in the field. Admissions Requirements Students seeking admission to the Sport Management program must meet the following minimum criteria prior to admission: - Possession of an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale covering the last 60 credit hours or 90 quarter hours (whichever one is applicable) of undergraduate study along with a minimum combined score of 283 from the quantitative and verbal sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- If the applicant does not have the required 3.0 GPA, please refer to the following chart for a minimum combined score from the quantitative and verbal sections of the GRE:

How to Apply You must obtain an application from the FAMU School of Graduate Studies and Research or you may obtain it online from the Web site here .
You must submit the completed application form to the School of Graduate Studies along with an official copy of your GRE scores (to be sent directly from the GRE testing services) and an official transcript from all previous colleges/universities attended.
All other supporting documentation should be sent directly to the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation at FAMU. DO NOT SEND TO THE SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES. These items should include the following:- Three professional letters of reference on company/organization letterhead addressing the applicant’s ability to succeed in a graduate program
- A personal statement describing the applicant’s desire to pursue a degree in Sport Management and career goal(s) in the sport industry
- An unofficial copy of the applicant’s GRE scores (fax, photo copy, or scan a copy of the scores you receive in the mail)

PLEASE NOTE: ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATION FILES WILL BE CONSIDERED. It is your responsibility to confirm that all your materials have been received. Application Deadlines The application deadline for the Sport Management program is April 1st for summer and fall admission. You MUST have ALL documents in by this date or your application WILL NOT be considered for admission. Funding While graduate assistantships are the ideal source of funding in graduate school, financial resources are limited. Applicants may apply for funding through the College of Education. Applications may be picked up in person from either the College of Education or from the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. You must be a fully, regularly admitted student to receive this funding. Also visit the School of Graduate Studies & Research Web site to search for funding options. Applicants are also encouraged to search for GA positions in administrative offices around the university such as residence halls, Student Recreation Center/Campus Recreation, athletics, and other service offices.
