What's NewOracle Excellence Award and Feature Article
In September 2008 Florida A&M University became the first HBCU to receive an Oracle Excellence Award. This award recognizes organizations for innovative deployments of Oracle Fusion Middleware with Oracle Applications. Florida A&M University will also be featured in an article on Integrated Security in Oracle Magazine for its implementation of Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Access Manager to strengthen its access controls to all of the University systems, including PeopleSoft.

Upgrade of iRattler Capus Solutions from Version 8.0 to 9.0
The Student Administration Team recently completed the upgrade of the Student Administration System 8.0 to Campus Solutions 9.0. This upgrade was necessary as Oracle/PeopleSoft no longer supports version 8.0 of the student system. This upgrade installed all of the latest and greatest functionality available in the student system to meet the intricate and diverse needs of the faculty, staff and students of Florida A&M University. The Student Administration Team is continuing to provide training and support to all the end users of Campus Solutions 9.0.
Human Capital Management Team Implementation of the iRattler Human Capital Management Module The iRattler Human Capital Management was successfully implemented in December 2007. The implementation of Human Capital Management provides an online time / labor entry for departments and enhanced reporting capabilities. HCM also interfaces with iRattler Financial Management System (FMS) and Student Administration (Campus Solutions) for exchange and update of financial and student data. New tools within HCM will assist in effectively managing employee statistics. This fully integrated enterprise system will assist in the enhancement of university analysis and planning activities. Financials Team Upgrade of PeopleSoft/Oracle Financial Management System (FMS) from version 8.4 to 9.0 During the summer of 2007, the FMS Project Sponsors and Executive Steering Committee decided to upgrade the current 8.4 version of PeopleSoft Financial Management System to version 9.0. A production ready system was made available June 2008 with a cut over date to version 9.0 in August 2008. E.I.T. Services Quality Enhancement Program In February 2008 Enterprise Information Technology purchased five hundred (500) new desktop computers and one hundred and fifty (150) notebook/tablet laptops. To ensure that Florida A&M University remains current with today’s technology advancements these new machines are equipped with the latest operating system and software. The distribution of these new machines, which began in March 2008, will enhance the capability of the staff at the University to perform their day to day duties. In addition to providing new computer for our staff EIT has also been involved in the acquisition of equipment to create a state of the art music studio for our music students to ensure that they receive the best education possible. FamMail Upgrade In December 2007 EIT completed the setup and configuration of new Blade Servers. These servers allow for better efficiency, faster response, and limited space allocation. The Exchange security upgrade allows the University to process approximately five hundred and forty-four thousand (544,000) emails daily which equates to three million eight hundred thousand (3,800,000) million emails per week. Task Management System In October 2007 Enterprise Information Technology launched the Task Management System. This system manages requests for services from on-campus clients to EIT and is geared toward improving EIT’s response time and overall customer service as well as increasing the staff’s accountability for project completion. In addition to implementing this new system EIT Services has also employed several knowledgeable permanent staff to ensure the Helpdesk functions effectively. Network and Infrastructure
The Network and Infrastructure Team has completed several network infrastructure upgrades in the last fiscal year: Some buildings that received network infrastructure upgrades are as follows:
- The School of Business and Industry’s East and South Wings
- The Frederick S. Humphries Science Research Center
- Perry Paige Building
- The Athletics Department Field House
- Gaither Gymnasium
- The Police Department Operations Center
The upgrades to these buildings included at least one of the following:
- Replacing old outdated Ethernet wiring with new CAT6 wiring for both the wireless and wired networks
- Replacing outdated Cabletron LAN switches network with a one hundred (100%) Cisco network infrastructure which consisted of all 10 gigabit ready Cisco LAN switches, wireless Access –Points and 24 –port – POE switches
- Installation Samsung HDTVs
- Installation of new CAT6 cabling for data and voice
- FAMU PD Campus monitoring System
Technology upgrades were also made to resident halls including:
- CAT6 wiring to facilitate wireless connections
- VoIP technology
- Siemens Cable TV system which provides cable TV to every residential hall room
To date all resident halls with the exception of Palmetto Phase III are equipped with new wireless infrastructure.
