Bachelor of Science in Music-Music Industry Major
The Music Industry major within the Bachelor of Science in Music degree is designed to acquaint students to the concepts and methodologies of the music and entertainment industry. Throughout the course of study students receive instruction in multiple areas including: copyright, publishing, distribution, retailing of sheet music, music management, production (music technology), merchandising, and sales of recorded music in all forms.
The minor in Music Industry is designed for students who wish to have a background in various aspects of the music and entertainment industry that are pursuing academic studies outside of music and music industry. Students must complete 18 credit hours in music/music industry to fulfill minor requirements.
Students entering into the major area of study are musicians who have an expressed interest in pursuing careers in the music and entertainment industry.
The term music industry connotes the comprehensive set of business areas and specific enterprises associated with the development, promotion, and sale of services and products in music and entertainment including management and specialized services in the various music and entertainment industries.

ALL students interested in pursuing Music Industry studies as a major must complete and pass the Department of Music audition on a primary instrument (instrumental or voice) as part of the admissions process.

All incoming students are required to purchase a pair of closed headphones, which will be used throughout your 4 years of coursework. These headphones must either terminate with a 1/4" stereo plug or have the appropriate adapter to interface with 1/4" stereo jacks. Recommendations include:

Additionally, all students are required to purchase a 7200 rpm Firewire hard-drive, at least 100GB, with carrying case. Your drive must have a Firewire 800 port and USB port.
