Institutional Review Board, IACUC and IBC The FAMU IRB (Institutional Review Board)
Reviews all research involving human subjects prior to the initiation of research as required by University policy and Federal Regulations 45 CFR 46, "Code for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research," and applicable ethical standards as published by professional groups and societies. The University's process for protecting human research subjects reflects federal regulations. The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) and Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) oversees the operation of the IRB, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) enforces regulations for the use of experimental drugs and devices.
The IRB (Institutional Review Board) is pleased to welcome Dr. Gwendolyn Singleton as the new chairman and Dr. Tony Manson as the Vice Chairman. Dr. Singleton is an associate professor in the College of Arts and Sciences in the Psychology department. Dr. Tony Manson is a professor in the College of Education and Chairman of the Department of Secondary Education. Together they bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to provide leadership to the Institutional Review Board.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Mission: Assess the animal care program and to assure that the proposed research is evaluated according to the Animal Welfare Act, The Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as the PHS Policy. Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) The IBC is responsible for review of all research that involves the use of biohazardous materials, regardless of funding source. Biohazardous materials subject to review by the IBC include, but are not limited, to the following:
