2010 Teacher Program
The Center for Water and Air Quality is developing an ongoing education support program for primary and secondary school teachers. The program was initiated with a seed grant from the Dauphin Island Sea Lab to develop a summer program for middle and high school teachers focused on coastal education and stewardship. During the summer of 2009, eight teachers participated in a two-week program that involved both field and classroom experiences. Activities included constructing a web log to document program activities, a field trip to the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab, and educational programs by the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve

The Center's teacher education program continues to grow. Other collaborative partners include the Florida State University Coastal and Marine Laboratory, NASA's Stennis Space Center Gulf of Mexico Initiative, the University of New Orleans Pontchartrain Institute for Environmental Sciences, and the NOAA Environmental Cooperative Science Center house in the Environmental Science Insitute at FAMU (insert this hyperlink here http://www.ecsc.famu.edu/). The Center is working on an EPA-supported Gulf of Mexico Conservation Education.
