Dr. Amita Jain is a Research Associate in the Center for Water Resources in the College of Agriculture and Food Sciences at Florida A&M University.  Prior to joining Florida A&M University, Dr. Jain worked as a Research Associate at the Texas A&M University, College Station for five years. She also worked as a lecturer at the Regional College of Education, NCERT, Mysore, India and as a Scientist Pool officer at the Mysore University, India.  She received her M.S and Ph.D degree in chemistry from Aligarh Muslim University, India.  Her research interests include kinetics and mechanisms of sorption and desorption of arsenic by Fe and Al oxides, removal of arsenic from drinking water, water quality monitoring, fate and transport of nutrients in soil and water, effect of reclaimed water irrigation on soil health and environment.

At Florida A&M University, Dr. Jain has developed a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory which has capabilities of analyzing water, soil, and plant samples.  She has published several papers on arsenic chemistry in the reputed journals such as Environmental Science and Technology, Journal of Environment Quality, Journal of Hazardous Material that have been highly cited.  One of her research papers titled “Arsenite and arsenate adsorption on ferrihydrite: kinetics, equilibrium, and adsorption envelopes” published in Environmental Science and Technology was featured as a highly cited paper on American Chemical Society Publication website.

Dr. Jain has received research grants totaling over $1.6 million from various funding agencies including USDA-NIFA, USDA-CSREES, USDA-Forest Service, and USEPA.  She has served as a reviewer for Environmental Science and Technology, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, Journal of Hazardous Materials, Journal of Environmental Engineering, Desalination, Langmuir, Journal of Chemical Engineering.
