Human Resources Assistant (Civilian)

Mr. Michael Elder was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He joined the United States Navy in 1994 and attended Recruit Basic Training at Orlando, Florida where he achieved a selection for PN (Personnelman) “A” School in Meridian MS. After finishing tied for top of his class, he was selected for duty at PSD Patuxent River, MD. There he took on the duties as Leave Clerk and Customer Service earning numerous BJOQ Awards and Letters of Commendations. In 1998 he reported to La Maddalena, Italy on board USS SIMON LAKE (AS-39) where he earned the promotion to E4/PN3 and performed the duties of a Transfer Clerk and EDVR Clerk. It was while onboard (AS-39) he performed his first Persian Gulf deployment and earning his Surface Warfare (SW) cutlass. In 2000, Mr. Elder reported to PSD Rota, Spain. During his tour he earned the promotion to E5/PN2 and was awarded numerous SOQ awards. While attached to PSD Rota, he was the Assistant Education Officer and oversaw 14 Navy-Wide Advancement Exams with a 98% acceptance rate. After PSD Rota assumed the Team Concept for their customers and clerks, he was appointed as a one of the 3 Team Leaders, becoming the most junior sailor to hold such a position.

In 2005, Mr. Elder received orders to Strike Fighter Squadron 115 (VFA-115) in Lemoore CA. where he earned promotion to E6/PS1 and his Aviation Warfare (AW) cutlass. While with the Eagles of VFA-115, he performed 3 cruises, the first onboard the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) with the final 2 onboard the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) supporting the Global War on Terrorism. In 2008, Mr. Elder received orders to PSD Sigonella Sicily. During his time in Sicily, Mr. Elder was the Quality Assurance Supervisor, responsible for transaction oversight, processing and release. He was specifically selected by NPPSC to assist in updating the installation’s instructions with concern to COMRATS and COLA entitlements. Due to his efforts, PSD Sicily routinely scored as a top performer in the European theatre.

Mr., Elder was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in 2010, but not before earning the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, three Navy Unit Commendation, two Meritorious Unit Commendation, four Navy "E" Ribbon, three Good Conduct Medal, two National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global, War on Terrorism Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, four Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, six Navy/Marine Corps Overseas, NATO Medal, and Expert Pistol Shot Medal.

After earning his Associates in Arts Degree from FSCJ in Jacksonville, FL, Mr. Elder attended Florida State University from 2014-2015 majoring in Human Resource Management. In Dec of 2015 he was selected by OCHR for a position with the Chief of Naval Personnel as a HR Assistant. He started in May 2016, and was placed at PSD Pensacola FL. During his time in Pensacola he worked in the Student section, onboarding, transferring and processing pay entitlements, both special and incentive, for enlisted and officers.

In December 2016, Mr. Elder reported to Florida A&M University NROTC, as the Human Resources Assistant in the Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps Unit (NROTC) assisting the NROTC staff and students of Florida A&M University, Florida State University, and Tallahassee Community College.
