Gunnery Sergeant Thompson enlisted in the Marine Corps on 12 July 2004.  He attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California.  After graduating recruit training he attended Marine Combat Training (MCT) at Camp Pendleton, California.  Following completion of MCT he attended MOS school at Camp Johnson, North Carolina, for Enlisted Basic Supply Warehouse Course (3051). 
In December 2004, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson received orders to 2D Force Reconnaissance Company, II Marine Expeditionary Force Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where he served as a Warehouse clerk and Warehouse NCO.  In April 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  He deployed to Iraq for support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 4-06, where he served as a Warehousemen. While deployed, he assisted and supported 87 combat patrols in the Al Anbar Province. In July 2006, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal.
In September 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson received orders to 1st Supply Battalion, where he served as the Warehouse Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) and Platoon Sergeant. In February 2008, he was promoted to rank of Sergeant. In August 2008, he deployed to Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom OIF792, where he served as the Receiving NCOIC. In May 2010, he deployed with the 15th MEU, where he served as the Combat Logistics Battalion 15 Warehouse Chief, managing Class IX repairable parts valued over Six Million dollars in Marine Corps assets.    
In April 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson requested and received orders to Drill Instructor School Class 3-11, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California. Upon graduation, he was assigned to Company C, 1st Recruit Training Battalion where he served as Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and S-3 Drill Instructor.
In June 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson received orders to 1st Battalion 10th Marine Regiment, where he served as the Assistant Warehouse Chief and Platoon Sergeant. In October 2014, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.
In October 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 2, Combat Logistics Regiment 2, where he served as Operations Chief, Warehouse Chief and Platoon Sergeant.
In March 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson received orders to 2d Tank Battalion, 2d Marine Division where he served as the Warehouse Chief and Platoon Sergeant.
In February 2018, Gunnery Sergeant Thompson received orders to Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor where he is currently serving. In September 2018, he was promoted to his current rank. 
Gunnery Sergeant Thompson’ personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in lieu of third award.
Gunnery Sergeant Thompson is married to the former Esmeralda Cejalua of Planada, California. They have two daughter’s named Alexandra and Kassandra.
