FAMU AG IT UP DAY

Fourth and fifth grade students from elementary schools in North Florida are invited to “Ag-It-Up” at FAMU on Friday, May 20, 2011, at the Alfred Lawson Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.

Students are introduced to the world of business development and ownership that is diversely connected to the field of agriculture through participating in the Youth Agricultural and Entrepreneurship Learning Day

The day of activities include many different exploratory paths for the students including sessions on:  “Nutrition and Fitness,” “Garden Demonstrations,” “Animal and Pet Care,” “Lab Research,” “Entomology – Bugs and Insects,” and “Starting Your Own Business.”

The event is free for fourth and fifth grade students. However, to attend, students must complete and submit a registration packet. Registration information is available with 4th and 5th grade teachers at their respective schools.

Ag-It-Up Day is an outreach event sponsored by the FAMU Cooperative Extension Program to promote awareness of careers and opportunities in the professions of agriculture and entrepreneurship.  

Funding for the program was allocated through a grant for from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture’sChildren, Youth, and Families at Risk (CYFAR) Program. The event is also supported by FAMU Cooperative Extension Programs, FAMU New & Beginning Farmers Program, USDA, local businesses and school districts in the North Florida region.
