Title: Feed Efficiency in Pastured Poultry

This experiment will evaluate the feed efficiency, weight gain and total bacteria of pasture raised poultry over an estimated eight-week span. Pasture poultry is used to describe a variety of production systems in which the birds have access to forage. Some methods used in pasture poultry are Salatin pen which is an open-bottomed pen, moved daily to fresh pasture and a Day-range system which is a semi-permanent shelter with a large yard enclosed with electric netting, inside which the chickens forage. Due to the increase of demand for organic/ natural products, pasture poultry has been an alternative method to producing a more natural poultry. Also pasture poultry has given small- scale farmers who lack resources and land the opportunity to produce poultry. It is believed that raising poultry on pasture carries with it a potentially greater economic benefit for those who use this method.

Objective: to produce the same quality of poultry as cage grown poultry

Key Words: Poultry, Feed Efficiency, Pasture, and Total Bacteria
